Thanh thiếu niên lựa chọn và gắn kết với đạo Phật như thế nào: Góc nhìn từ lý thuyết xã hội hóa tôn giáo (NCS. Lê Tấn Lộc)

ĐẶT VẤN ĐỀ

Việc giáo dục đạo đức cho giới trẻ ngày nay không còn là công việc riêng của ngành giáo dục mà đó là công việc chung của toàn xã hội. Vì vậy, trong những năm gần đây một số tự viện Phật giáo thường tổ chức các khóa tu dành cho thanh thiếu niên với mục đích giúp các em sống tốt hơn. Điều này đã tạo ra một hiệu ứng tích cực từ xã hội và được đông đảo phụ huynh đồng tình ủng hộ. Dù có nhiều bài viết nhận định đạo đức Phật giáo phù hợp cho việc giáo dục đạo đức cho thanh thiếu niên, nhưng hầu hết chỉ dừng lại ở việc phân tích những giá trị đạo đức từ kinh điển và đưa ra nhận định. Thực tế thì hiệu quả đến mức độ nào còn phụ thuộc vào nhiều yếu tố, trong đó có yếu tố tình cảm và niềm tin của người học. Một khi người học có tình cảm và niềm tin vào những giá trị đạo đức, việc thực hành sẽ thường xuyên hơn. Tiến sĩ Nguyễn Hữu Tuấn (2010), Viện Nghiên cứu Thanh thiếu niên Việt Nam, khi nhận định về vai trò của Phật giáo đối với thế hệ trẻ đã khuyến nghị: “Nhận biết và thực hành theo giáo lí của Đạo Phật, tôi tin rằng các bạn trẻ sẽ sống tốt hơn. Đời sống của các bạn trẻ sẽ an lành và hạnh phúc”. Từ đó cho thấy thanh thiếu niên đến với Đạo Phật và lựa chọn Đạo Phật để làm điểm tựa tinh thần cho mình là rất cần thiết. Tuy nhiên, việc lựa chọn này có thể chịu tác động của nhiều yếu tố. Vì vậy, bài viết này sẽ đi vào kiểm chứng lý thuyết Xã hội hóa tôn giáo của E. Sherkat (2003) bằng một nghiên cứu mang tính khám phá trường hợp thanh thiếu niên đến các thiền viện thuộc Thiền phái Trúc Lâm Việt Nam để tham gia SHTH (SHTH) hàng tuần với mục đích để đánh giá các yếu tố ảnh hưởng đến việc lựa chọn Đạo Phật của thanh thiếu niên (TTN).

LÝ THUYẾT XÃ HỘI HÓA TÔN GIÁO

Theo lý thuyết Xã hội hóa tôn giáo của E. Sherkat, xã hội hóa tôn giáo là một quá trình tương tác mà ở đó những tác nhân xã hội ảnh hưởng đến niềm tin và nhận thức về tôn giáo của cá nhân. Theo đó, một số tác nhân xã hội cần được xem xét:

Thứ nhất, gia đình được xem là một tác nhân quan trọng bậc nhất. Cha mẹ và những người thân khác trong gia đình có thể đưa ra những lời giải thích căn bản cho con em mình về những cái siêu nhiên và dạy cho con em mình biết về những cái siêu nhiên. Điều này có khả năng ảnh hưởng đến sự lựa chọn tôn giáo của các em. Thực tế qua các nghiên cứu mang tầm quốc gia và mang tính hệ thống đều chứng minh rằng cha mẹ quyết định đến niềm tin và sự quy thuộc tôn giáo trong suốt cuộc đời của con cái. Tuy nhiên, sự ảnh hưởng giữa cha mẹ và con cái có thể là sự ảnh hưởng hai chiều. Điều này có nghĩa là niềm tin của con cái ở giai đoạn vị thành niên chịu ảnh hưởng của cha mẹ, nhưng khi con cái bước vào giai đoạn trưởng thành lại có thể ảnh hưởng đến niềm tin của cha mẹ.

Tác nhân thứ hai là do yếu tố hôn nhân. Vì đối tượng nghiên cứu là TTN từ 12 đến 18 tuổi nên yếu tố này sẽ không xem xét. Tác nhân thứ ba là các nhóm tôn giáo. Trong những năm gần đây, ảnh hưởng của yếu tố này không còn được xem là quan trọng nữa. Tuy nhiên, ảnh hưởng của tác nhân này có thể sẽ thông qua việc tổ chức sinh hoạt tôn giáo, phát hành các ấn phẩm tôn giáo và có thể thông qua các hoạt động quyên góp,… Tác nhân thứ tư là giáo dục. Giáo dục ở bậc tiểu học và phổ thông cũng chưa đề cập nhiều đến vấn đề tôn giáo. Ở bậc giáo dục cao hơn, những tư tưởng chống lại tôn giáo có thể bắt đầu xuất hiện. Những nghiên cứu mang tính hệ thống đều cho thấy giáo dục làm giảm sự lựa chọn tôn giáo, khuyến khích tính vô thần. Chính vì vậy giáo dục cũng là tác nhân ảnh hưởng đến sự lựa chọn tôn giáo. Vì mẫu nghiên cứu thuộc đối tượng học sinh phổ thông cơ sở và phổ thông trung học nên yếu tố này cũng không được đánh giá.

PHƯƠNG PHÁP NGHIÊN CỨU

Thiết kế nghiên cứu

Nghiên cứu được thiết kế theo dạng nghiên cứu khám phá bằng việc kết hợp giữa hai phương pháp định tính và định lượng. Mục đích của nghiên cứu là trả lời câu hỏi thanh thiếu niên lựa chọn và gắn kết với Đạo Phật như thế nào.

Mẫu nghiên cứu

Đối tượng tham gia vào nghiên cứu bao gồm 140 TTN trong độ tuổi từ 12 đến 18, có thời gian tham gia SHTH tại ba thiền viện thuộc Thiền phái Trúc Lâm Việt Nam (Thiền viện Viên Chiếu, tỉnh Đồng Nai; Thiền viện Trúc Lâm Hàm Rồng, tỉnh Thanh Hóa; và Thiền viện Trúc Lâm Chính Pháp, tỉnh Tuyên Quang) từ 6 tháng trở lên (Độ tuổi trung bình = 14,9, độ lệch chuẩn = 2,17). Theo lý thuyết về các giai đoạn phát triển nhận thức của J. Piaget, TTN sau 11 tuổi có khả năng nhận thức mang tính hệ thống (Dương Thị Diệu Hoa và cộng sự, 2012, tr.34-35). Vì số lượng mẫu nghiên cứu thỏa mãn điều kiện trên hạn chế, nên tất cả TTN đang tham gia SHTH tại ba thiền viện nêu trên đáp ứng được yêu cầu đã nêu và tự nguyện tham gia đều được lựa chọn.

Ngữ cảnh nghiên cứu

Vào chủ nhật hàng tuần, TTN đến các thiền viện tham gia SHTH. Trong ngày tu học, các em được dạy giáo lý, hướng dẫn tọa thiền và thọ trai (ăn trưa) trong chánh niệm. Ngoài ra, còn tham gia vào các hoạt động vui chơi tập thể.

Phương pháp thu thập dữ liệu

Nghiên cứu đã sử dụng phương pháp điều tra bằng bảng hỏi và PVS 12 trường hợp (6 nam và 6 nữ). Về thang đo, một số thang đo chủ yếu có liên quan đến bài viết này được mô tả như sau:

Động cơ tham gia SHTH

Động cơ tham gia SHTH có thể được phân thành hai loại: Động cơ trong và động cơ ngoài. Động cơ trong là xuất phát từ việc cá nhân nhận thấy hoạt động là hứng thú, là được thỏa mãn, là thử thách đối với bản thân; còn động cơ ngoài là nhằm đáp ứng mục tiêu bên ngoài như để được khen thưởng, do bị sức ép, hoặc là để tránh sự trừng phạt,… (Phạm Thành Nghị, 2016, tr.129). Nghiên cứu tiến hành khảo sát động cơ hiện tại (tại thời điểm khảo sát) TTN đến các thiền viện tham gia SHTH bằng cách xây dựng câu hỏi với các lựa chọn sau: 1. Do gia đình bắt buộc, 2. Do tự thích đi, 3. Do bạn bè rủ đi, và 4. Lý do khác (được đề nghị ghi cụ thể). Theo cách phân loại động cơ nêu trên, biến số này có thể được mã hóa lại còn hai giá trị: 1. Động cơ ngoài (bao gồm sự tác động của gia đình và bạn bè, tạm gọi là tác động bên ngoài) và 2. Động cơ trong (bao gồm TTN tự cảm thấy thích đi hoặc do có động cơ tích cực như để tu sửa bản thân, để trở thành con ngoan trò giỏi, để học hỏi điều hay,…) khi xem xét trong mối tương quan với biến số khác. Đồng thời nghiên cứu cũng tiến hành khảo sát động cơ ban đầu TTN tham gia SHTH bằng cách tương tự trên với mục đích là để xem xét có sự thay đổi về động cơ hay không.

Thái độ của cha mẹ đối với Đạo Phật

Thanh thiếu niên trả lời về việc theo hay không theo Đạo Phật của cha mẹ bằng cách lựa chọn một trong các khả năng sau: 1. Cha và mẹ không theo Đạo Phật, 2. Có cha hoặc mẹ theo Đạo Phật, và 3. Cha và mẹ theo Đạo Phật.

Mức độ thường xuyên tham gia SHTH của thanh thiếu niên

TTN trả lời mức độ thường xuyên tham gia SHTH của mình từ lúc bắt đầu biết đến thiền viện cho đến thời điểm tiến hành khảo sát bằng cách lựa chọn một trong các khả năng sau: 1. Tham gia ít hơn 50% số ngày SHTH, 2. Tham gia khoảng 50% số ngày, và 3. Tham gia hơn 50% số ngày. Nếu tham gia ít hơn 50% số ngày sinh hoạt, TTN được đề nghị cho biết lý do.

Hoạt động tu học

Biến số này gồm 11 mệnh đề thể hiện mức độ đánh giá của TTN về các nội dung tu học: Quý thầy/cô giảng bài dễ hiểu, thích quý thầy/cô giảng bài, vận dụng được những bài học giáo lý vào cuộc sống, nắm được phương pháp tọa thiền, cảm thấy thoải mái khi tọa thiền, cảm thấy thực sự được thư giãn sau khi tọa thiền, được hướng dẫn nghi thức thọ trai cụ thể, được giải thích ý nghĩa của nghi thức thọ trai, được học bài học bổ ích từ nghi thức thọ trai, giờ học kỹ năng thanh niên thực sự hữu ích và giờ sinh hoạt tập thể thực sự hữu ích. Các mệnh đề được đánh giá theo thang đo 5 mức độ (1: Hoàn toàn không đồng ý; 5: Hoàn toàn đồng ý). Hệ số tin cậy của thang đo là khá tốt (0,84).

Công cụ phân tích dữ liệu

Dữ liệu định lượng được phân tích bằng các phép thống kê thông thường và các phép kiểm định T-test cũng như Spearman từ phần mềm SPSS 20.

Tiến sĩ Nguyễn Hữu Tuấn (2010), Viện Nghiên cứu Thanh thiếu niên Việt Nam, khi nhận định về vai trò của Phật giáo đối với thế hệ trẻ đã khuyến nghị: “Nhận biết và thực hành theo giáo lí của Đạo Phật, tôi tin rằng các bạn trẻ sẽ sống tốt hơn. KẾT QUẢ NGHIÊN CỨU

Ảnh hưởng từ yếu tố gia đình

Về mức độ thường xuyên tham gia SHTH của TTN, kết quả phân tích thống kê thể hiện TTN tham gia khá thường xuyên. Có đến 71,3% TTN tham gia hơn 50% số ngày SHTH, 16,9% tham gia khoảng 50% số ngày, và chỉ có 11,8% tham gia dưới 50% số ngày. Lý do những trường hợp tham gia ít hơn 50% số ngày qua phân tích số liệu đều xuất phát từ những lý do khách quan như bận học thêm hoặc bận công việc gia đình. Kết quả phân tích mối tương quan giữa biến số về việc theo Đạo Phật của cha mẹ và biến số về mức độ thường xuyên tham gia SHTH của TTN bằng phép kiểm định Spearman cho thấy hai biến số có mối tương quan thuận chiều nhau: rs(113) = 0,19, p < 0,05. Hệ số tương quan này (0,19) theo cách phân loại của Khamis (2008) thuộc tương quan yếu. Điều này có nghĩa là việc theo Đạo Phật của cha mẹ dù có tác động tích cực đến việc thường xuyên tham gia SHTH của con em mình nhưng mức độ là không đáng kể. Xét về động cơ tham gia SHTH, qua so sánh động cơ tham gia SHTH của TTN lúc mới bắt đầu đến thiền viện và động cơ tham gia tại thời điểm khảo sát, có một sự thay đổi rất tích cực (Bảng 1).

Kết quả PVS (PVS) cũng thể hiện được xu hướng thay đổi tích cực nêu trên. Đặc biệt là việc cha mẹ theo hay không theo Đạo Phật đều muốn cho con em mình làm sao sống tốt hơn, chưa có cơ sở thể hiện có sự áp đặt về niềm tin tôn giáo. Một TTN nữ, 17 tuổi cho biết: “Ở nhà con, bố không theo Đạo Phật, chỉ đi đền (thờ mẫu), mẹ con thì nửa theo Phật, nửa theo bên đền. Còn bà con có theo Đạo Phật, trước đây có ở chung, bây giờ đã chuyển đi chỗ khác rồi. […]. Trước bà con cũng kể nhiều chuyện về Đạo Phật nhưng con cũng lơ mơ. Sau bố mẹ mới bảo ở trong này xây thiền viện cũng lâu rồi và thấy cũng có nhiều người vào trong này. Trong này cũng có cái tốt nên khuyên con vào trong này. Nghe lời bố mẹ con theo vào […]. Lúc này con cảm thấy thích đi sinh hoạt rồi ạ. Đi sinh hoạt đầy đủ 100% thì con không chắc, nhưng khoảng 80%. Những lúc vắng là do các hoạt động của lớp hoặc phải đi học thêm hay việc gia đình gì đấy”.

“Cha con có theo Đạo Phật, còn mẹ thì không. Lúc đầu là do cha mẹ bắt đi [theo bạn cho biết là vì bạn ở nhà nghiện game online] nhưng sau đó nó dường như là bản năng, thói quen rồi ạ. Trong lòng thực sự thích đi ạ vì những lời Phật dạy có những câu rất đúng với trường hợp của con” (Kết quả PVS một TTN nam, 14 tuổi).

Những gì thu thập được qua PVS cũng thể hiện có sự tác động trở lại từ TTN đối với cha mẹ dù hiện tượng này chỉ là cá biệt. Một TTN nam, 14 tuổi kể về quá trình đến với Đạo Phật của cha mình như sau: “Như bố con trước đây hay uống rượu. Về sau khi đi sinh hoạt về hay kể cho cha nghe hôm nay các thầy dạy cái gì. Về sau bố bỏ uống rượu, bỏ thuốc lá các thứ ạ. Sau đó, bố đến thiền viện quy y Tam bảo. Hiện mỗi này bố đều ngồi thiền”.

“Con cố gắng hướng mẹ theo Phật. Tối hôm qua nằm ngủ thì hai mẹ con có tâm sự. Mẹ bảo giờ mẹ nghĩ vô thường, cái gì đến cứ để nó đến, nó đi thì cứ để nó đi. Bây giờ mẹ con có mất cái gì thì mẹ con cũng chấp nhận, mẹ con không đau. Vì từ lúc con đi thiền viện, mẹ con cũng không có tìm hiểu về Đạo Phật đâu nhưng con cũng thường hay nói chuyện về thiền viện cho mẹ nghe đó, con cũng cảm thấy mẹ con thay đổi rất nhiều. Mẹ con không còn suy nghĩ nhiều như trước đây” (Kết quả PVS một TTN nữ, 18 tuổi).

Như vậy, có thể thấy, cha mẹ dù có biết đến Đạo Phật hay không cũng có ảnh hưởng vào lúc ban đầu khi TTN mới đến với Đạo Phật. Tuy nhiên sau đó, nếu cha mẹ có theo Đạo Phật sẽ có ảnh hưởng tích cực dù chỉ ở mức hạn chế đến sự gắn bó với Đạo Phật của TTN. Và sự gắn bó đó còn tùy thuộc vào TTN.

Ảnh hưởng của môi trường SHTH: Việc thay đổi động cơ nêu trên có khả năng là do ảnh hưởng của môi trường SHTH ở các thiền viện. Quả thật kết quả phân tích số liệu bằng kiểm định T-test đã chứng minh rằng nhóm TTN tham gia SHTH với động cơ bên trong (do tự thích đi hoặc do lý do tích cực khác) đánh giá hoạt động tu học cao hơn so với nhóm TTN tham gia vì tác động của gia đình hoặc bạn bè: M = 4.20 (SD = 0,49) so với M = 3,73 (SD = 0,76) và p = 0,002. Kết quả PVS thể hiện sự thay đổi động cơ nêu trên của TTN là rất duy lý, xuất phát từ những lý do rất chính đáng. Việc TTN đánh giá cao môi trường SHTH cũng là xuất phát từ nhận thức của chính các em. Không dừng lại ở đó, niềm tin của TTN đối với Đạo Phật dù chưa được phân tích ở góc độ định lượng trong phạm vi bài viết này, nhưng qua PVS cho thấy TTN có niềm tin vào Đạo Phật và niềm tin đó cũng hoàn toàn là duy lý.

“Con rất tin đối với Phật pháp, con rất tin vào Đức Phật và quý thầy cô. Quý thầy cô giảng bài dễ hiểu và con rất thích […]. Khi biết đến Phật pháp, con thấy mình biết suy nghĩ hơn, biết chăm lo cho ông bà hơn [bạn đang sống với ông bà], giúp ông bà mọi thứ như nấu cơm, rửa bát và đặc biệt chú ý hơn đến việc học. So với trước đây thì việc học của con bây giờ tiến bộ hơn, con đứng đầu lớp. Đối với các bạn trong lớp con cũng cư xử tốt hơn. Trước con cũng nghiện facebook, lên face để tham gia chửi nhau và nói lời thô tục, nay con không còn nữa và con cũng đóng face luôn vì con thấy không cần thiết nữa, chỉ làm mình tiêu tốn thời gian. Trước đây khi thầy cô giáo la rầy mình cứ nghĩ là thầy cô muốn dìm mình xuống, còn bây giờ con hiểu thầy cô nói là để cho mình tốt hơn […]. Những bài học Phật pháp làm con thay đổi là Luật Nhân quả và lịch sử cuộc đời Đức Phật. Đức Phật từ bỏ ngai vàng và vượt qua nhiều gian khổ để vươn lên một tầm cao mới thì tại sao mình lại không làm được” (Kết quả PVS một TTN nữ, 15 tuổi).

“Đối với Đức Phật, Ngài có thật hay không là không quan trọng. Điều quan trọng Ngài là người tốt và giúp người khác tốt nên mình phải học theo Ngài, nên con rất tin. Ngài đã ngồi thiền dưới gốc Bồ Đề 49 ngày đêm, còn con một ngày ngủ nhiều hơn là học. Từ đó con cố gắng học hơn […]. Con thích nhất là ngồi thiền. Vì lúc đó con kiểm lại mình để thay đổi. Có những lúc nhớ lại hồi học ở cấp 2, con bị bắt nạt và con cảm thấy rất câm thù những người bắt nạt mình, nhưng khi ngồi thiền con lại xuôi đi. Nhiều lúc muốn giữ lại cảm giác câm thù nhưng khi ngồi thiền hoặc làm gì liên quan đến Phật pháp thì con cảm thấy nó vơi đi […]. Con cũng thích giờ học Phật pháp. Con có nghiệm ra Luật Nhân quả rất là hay. Ví dụ có ai đó làm cho con tức lên, làm tổn thương con. Lúc ấy, con biết nhìn lại mình, kiểm lại Luật Nhân quả, lúc đó cơn tức, cơn giận hay buồn bã ‘bay’ đi hết” (Kết quả PVS một TTN nam, 17 tuổi).

Đến đây có thể thấy, sự gắn kết giữa TTN với Đạo Phật còn tùy thuộc vào môi trường tu học. Khi TTN nhận thấy được những lợi ích từ việc tham gia SHTH sẽ phát sinh niềm tin và gắn kết với Đạo Phật.

Nhận xét và kết luận

Việc ban đầu TTN đến với Đạo Phật không hoàn toàn do tác động từ cha mẹ hoặc bạn bè. Một bộ phận TTN đến với Đạo Phật là xuất phát từ sự lựa chọn của chính các em. Mặc dù có một tỷ lệ nhất định do tác động từ cha mẹ hoặc bạn bè, nhưng đó chỉ là bước đầu, thời gian sau đó tùy thuộc vào môi trường SHTH. Dĩ nhiên, nếu cha mẹ có theo Đạo Phật thì cũng sẽ là yếu tố giúp các em gắn kết với Đạo Phật thường xuyên hơn nhưng sự tác động đó là không đáng kể. Phần lớn TTN lựa chọn Đạo Phật là duy lý, xuất phát từ nhận thức của chính các em. Yếu tố quan trọng để giúp cho các em nhận thức đúng về Đạo Phật, tìm thấy được lợi ích từ việc lựa chọn của mình lại nằm ở vai trò của các tự viện, mà cụ thể là Tăng Ni. Từ đó cho thấy việc xây dựng chương trình tu học dành cho TTN cần phải được chú trọng. Một điều phát hiện từ kết quả nghiên cứu là sự tác động của cha mẹ dường như chỉ nhằm mục đích cho các em sống tốt hơn, không có chứng cứ thể hiện sự tác động nhằm mục đích hướng các em đến một niềm tin tôn giáo. Dù cha mẹ có theo hay không theo Đạo Phật cũng khuyến khích các em đến chùa tham gia SHTH. Đây là một điều rất đặc biệt. Có lẽ Đạo Phật không đơn thuần là một tôn giáo mà còn là một khoa học và một triết lý sống như Tola & Dragonetti (2007) đã nhận định. Hay nói theo cách của một nhà nghiên cứu Phật học Việt Nam, Giáo sư Minh Chi (2003), “Tầm quan trọng của tư tưởng Phật giáo là ở tính người của nó (nay thường gọi là tính nhân bản), thay vì tinh thần thiêng liêng hay là siêu nhiên, mà các tôn giáo khác thường cho là đặc hữu của mình”.

Tóm lại, những gì được phát hiện qua nghiên cứu này vừa có những điểm phù hợp và không phù hợp với lý thuyết Xã hội hóa tôn giáo của E. Sherkat (2003). Sự ảnh hưởng của cha mẹ, tổ chức tôn giáo và bạn bè đến việc lựa chọn niềm tin của TTN là có cơ sở, nhưng cha mẹ không phải là tác nhân quyết định hoàn toàn và cha mẹ không áp đặt niềm tin của mình đối với con cái. Phát hiện qua nghiên cứu này cho thấy dường như vai trò của tự viện Phật giáo là quan trọng. Việc tự viện Phật giáo truyền tải được bản chất thật của Đạo Phật đã tác động đến nhận thức của các em, hình thành niềm tin ở các em, tạo thành chất keo để gắn kết các em với Đạo Phật. Cũng theo lý thuyết trên, chỉ con cái đã trưởng thành mới có khả năng tác động trở lại đối với niềm tin của cha mẹ. Kết quả nghiên cứu này cũng đã phát hiện sự tác động trở lại từ niềm tin vào Đạo Phật của TTN đối với cha mẹ dù các em chưa thực sự là người đã trưởng thành. Tuy nhiên, phát hiện này chỉ mang tính cá biệt, vì vậy cần được nghiên cứu ở một phạm vi rộng hơn. Nghiên cứu này chỉ mang tính chất khám phá, được tiến hành trong một phạm vi tương đối hẹp. Vì vậy, rất cần có những nghiên cứu thực nghiệm trên phạm vi rộng hơn để vừa đi vào kiểm nghiệm thực tế các lý thuyết nghiên cứu có liên quan vừa đánh giá một cách khách quan vai trò của Phật giáo đối với việc giáo dục đạo đức cho thanh thiếu niên.
