Kính thưa quý độc giả!

Thuở xưa, khi Đức Thế Tôn trú tại thành Xá Vệ, nơi rừng cây Kỳ Đà, vườn ông Cấp Cô Độc. Đêm hôm đó, trời đã khuya, bỗng cả khu vườn hiện lên ánh hào quang sáng chói bởi một chư Thiên muốn gặp Phật để tham vấn đạo lý. Sau khi đảnh lễ Đức Thế Tôn, chư Thiên ngồi sang một bên rồi thưa rằng: “Chư Thiên cùng nhân loại làm thế nào để được sống bình yên và hạnh phúc? Kính xin Thế Tôn chỉ dạy”. “Lành thay! Lành thay! Thiên nhân khéo biết cách thưa hỏi, ta sẽ vì ngươi chỉ dạy 10 phương pháp gieo trồng phước đức, để làm lợi lạc cho Trời, Người trong hiện tại và mai sau”.

Có thể thấy, ngay từ thời Đức Phật còn hiện hữu, Ngài đã khuyến cáo từng cá nhân hãy nỗ lực thực thi các việc công đức bằng cả sự nhiệt tâm, tinh cần để đem lại lợi ích lớn. Một việc làm thiện tâm dù rất nhỏ, nhưng hiệu quả tốt đẹp của hành động đó có tác động rất lớn đối với nhiều người.

“Phước đức” không phải tự nhiên mà có, đó là cả quá trình đầu tư của mỗi cá thể trong việc thực thi đời sống tu tập tự thân hướng nội, sống đúng chánh pháp và làm các việc hữu ích cho đời. Đức Phật từng dạy: một niệm sân khởi lên thì sẽ đốt cháy rừng công đức. Chỉ cần bạn có ý thức tự nguyện tinh tấn làm các việc phước lành thì sẽ có hiệu quả ngay.

Nhân dịp đầu xuân năm mới Nhâm Dần, để cùng bàn về ý nghĩa của việc gieo trồng phước đức trong đời sống, Tạp chí Văn Hóa Phật Giáo xin trân trọng gửi đến quý độc giả số báo 383 với chủ đề “Gia tài phước đức”. Hãy làm phước chớ mệt mỏi, gieo cây đức, trồng cội phước bằng những việc làm thiết thực, trong khả năng có thể chính là cơ sở cho mọi thành công.

Bố thí hay sẻ chia một phần rất nhỏ những tài vật mà mình đang có đến với mọi người là điều dễ làm nhất. Nếu ta còn khó khăn, tài vật ít thì hãy nói những lời tốt lành có tác dụng động viên, an ủi, khích lệ tinh thần đến với mọi người. Đôi khi, ta chẳng có gì để cho và cũng không đủ lời hay để nói, chỉ cần thành tâm lắng nghe thôi cũng đã giúp người vơi khổ, bớt đau mà tạo ra phước đức vô lượng.
